Heat disease is the number 1 killer in the United States. More people die from heart disease in America than all other causes of death combined. It has become so common in the last 50 years that people now accept this unnatural disease as a natural fact of aging. However, there are many places in the world where heart attacks are uncommon and rare. Cultures which consume few meat or animal products have virtually no heart disease.
A great book on the subject of the disease causing properties of meat is Campbell’s China Study, or All of John Robbins’ books.
The greatest risk factor is high cholesterol
The number 1 most important risk factor for heart disease is high cholesterol. High cholesterol is so common in this country that we use an adjusted scale for measuring cholesterol to make our scores appear normal. AmericanHeart.org calls anything below 150 normal. However, rural vegetarian Chinese populations measured in the China Study had cholesterol levels that averaged 90! Average level in the States is 210. Average level for U.S. vegans is 133. That number is made up primarily from Junk Food Vegans that dine on refined grains, deep fried foods, sugary drinks, and pastries on a regular basis. Imagine how well whole food plant-based eaters would score in similar studies.
It’s like curving a college class, when everyone flunks the test, the teacher lowers the standard so most people pass.
