In lieu of a real post (though I’ve got one in the works regarding iron intake and pregnancy), these are my personal all-time favorite books that I’ve been thinking about rereading or reading more thoroughly over the summer — I want to post personal reviews that will convince you how important these books are too!

I really want to read Chi Running!

You should! It’s an important book to me, because it removed soreness and discomfort in running for me. I doubled the length of my runs as I got better at practicing the method in the book, and running became more fun and less work. I enjoyed the awareness of my moving body that it helped me achieve!! It helped Greg a lot too.

What I talk about when I talk about running is a wonderful literary and reflective book.
Would love to know lots more about the China Study.
Does Chi Running help you use your central energy? And then direct it to the hurting part?

Chi Running has been criticized for not really being all that “Chi,” but yes, it’s very much about using your central energy in a literal way — that your torso is the strongest area of your body, so you are running with your center and not with your legs. The best advice in this book is about actually relaxing your legs as you kick. It’s incredible.
I could criticize this book and say that it’s also not good advice for everyone — in that, we all are working with different bodies to start out. Some of the advice that is good for me isn’t perfect for Greg — but overall, the “body check” ideas that this book provides are adaptable and bring about a different awareness of how your body can better serve you while running.
So glad you liked What I talk about when I talk about running! I love Murakami in general, and this book got me out there on my feet everyday along with providing a really nice memoir of a great author!
